We are looking for a Drainage Engineer to manage watercourse maintenance services for various departments of the City Council and the Environment Agency. You will be required to provide technical and non-technical civil engineering input to the day-to-day management to ensure that they can be delivered to the highest quality and to agreed timescales. You will; undertake technical drawings, maintain drainage records and maps, give advice, assistance and information to individuals and developers as appropriate including providing planning advice in relation to flood risk, drainage and the water environment.

In this varied role, you will lead on programme and project delivery to ensure the contractor has interpreted the contract documents correctly and is carrying out the works in accordance with the contract and to the satisfaction of the client. Projects and maintenance activities can be simple or complex ranging in value up to £60,000 and therefore, the preparation of quotations, utilising supplier information, cost standards and technical information from quality, manufacturing engineering and procurement will form an important part of the role. Site inspections will be required as part of the role and the drainage projects and watercourse maintenance programmes will often involve working next to watercourses, within public highway and open spaces.

Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant subject (or with verifiable experience up to degree level) you will be fully conversant with relevant current legislation and regulations. With proven experience of contract management, including budgeting, financial control and instructing and supervising contractors, you will be able to demonstrate your motivation to work across a range of engineering expertise fully utilising your ability to communicate well with technical and non-technical people at all levels. With strong organisation skills and a methodical approach to tasks, you will have comprehensive IT skills and the ability to work on your own initiative or as part of a team.
