Cambridgeshire County Council’s Place and Economy Directorate delivers services across areas such as transport, new infrastructure, roads and the environment. It aims to manage and deliver the growth and development of sustainable communities, meet the challenges of climate change and enhance the natural environment.

The Road Safety team sits within the Transport Strategy and Network Management Service and is looking to develop a centre of excellence within the Council across road safety disciplines. The Council has recently adopted a Vision Zero strategy aiming to eliminate road deaths and severe injuries by 2040 and is looking for people who share this ambitious vision to join the team leading on the safe road and safe road user aspects of this strategy.

The service operates flexibly, with opportunities to work remotely as well as a central base in Huntingdon, but the ability to travel to different locations across the county is essential.

This is a specialist role within the Road Safety Service and requires an expert in road safety engineering. The post offers a linked grade allowing progression from Engineer to Senior Engineer level. You will be responsible for the investigation and analysis of collisions in order to develop and prioritise infrastructure measures, lead Road Safety Audits and provide advice to others in the team and wider Council services, partners and stakeholders. The workload should follow an approximately 50:50 split between road safety audit and collision investigation/analysis (recognising the need to respond to service peaks in demand). You will use your expertise to support the career development of the Assistant Engineers and other staff developing skills in auditing and investigation.

We are looking for someone with a HNC or equivalent experience in Civil Engineering together with significant expertise in road safety engineering and in-depth knowledge of traffic management, highway design and construction.

In return, the Council offers a variety of benefits including the Local Government Pension Scheme, a generous annual leave allowance with the option to buy additional leave, flexible working, opportunities for learning and development up to degree level and the prospect of playing a key role in delivering an ambitious road safety strategy that will benefit all road users in Cambridgeshire.

The closing date for applications is midday on Monday 18th July 2022.

Interviews will be held virtually on Thursday 28th July 2022.
