We are seeking an experienced, self-motivated and organised Social Worker to join our team within the Post Adoption and Special Guardianship Order (SGO) Support Team.
In this fascinating role you will support adopted adults and birth parents who are requesting access their childhood care records or who are seeking to contact their birth child who was adopted and who may be in crisis. You will be part of a busy, supportive county-wide team with a learning culture who are committed and determined to provide a high quality of service and support to adults who want to understand and come to terms with their past history, with respect to adoption.
You will need to:

• Have a thorough understanding of pre and post commencement adoption regulations and understand the difference between these two approaches in terms of access to records.
• Undertake succinct and thorough summaries of large amounts of written information a timely way.
• Ensure that your communication with adults who were adopted or who are seeking their birth child is always empathic, supportive and sensitive, enabling them to be in control of their choices where possible.
• Have the capacity and resilience to operate within a changing legislative framework where staying up to date is imperative.
• Support delivery of small group training on topics of letterbox contact and access to records and matters related to adoption, both for families and staff.
• Have knowledge and experience of working with children and families who interact with the care system, in particular knowledge of the impacts of adoption and attachment theory.

• Engage and work directly with young adults and older adults in age-appropriate ways to inform your understanding of their needs and their capacity to manage sensitive information to hear their views and to offer support to them in a way which responds to their worries and needs.
You will be expected to invest in the life of the team and develop working relationships with staff and families alike which are based on collaborative and supportive methods of working, respecting others’ strengths, celebrating differences and seeking solutions. You may, at times, be required to support other Social Work functions within the team.
