West Northamptonshire Council is a brand-new Council with a big vision, committed to place-shaping, with heritage and conservation playing an important role.

The Built and Natural Environment team for the Northampton area sits within Planning and Climate Change Policy at the Council. Initially the focus for the role will be within Northampton, but this will be reviewed as part of an organisational review for the new council. The team is also collating a local list of non-designated heritage assets assessed against an agreed set of criteria and supported by an independent panel.

The team is responsible for advising on major conservation projects, carrying out Conservation Area Assessments, having a key input into policy-making, including Local Plans and Supplementary Planning Documents, commenting on planning applications, processing applications for works to trees in conservation areas and trees with tree preservation orders, and the making of TPOs.

We are looking for an experienced conservation professional to co-ordinate the work of the Built and Natural Environment team and develop its role within the new Council. You should be confident in working alongside other planning and environment professionals to deliver and maintain high quality environments and play an active role in place-shaping. You will be responsible the running of the Built and Natural Environment team overseeing the work of a Senior Conservation Officer and an Arboricultural Officer, giving expert advice on conservation projects and providing key inputs to planning policies.

Rewards and Benefits

• A flexible working arrangement
• Generous holiday allowance
• Access to Local Government Pension Scheme
