Cambridgeshire Archives Service has a full-time, fixed term vacancy for an Archives Assistant for 12 months to work within a small but busy team dedicated to collecting, preserving and promoting the use of historical records of Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire.

You will be based at Cambridgeshire Archives in our new archives centre Ely but will also be required to provide occasional cover at Huntingdonshire Archives in Huntingdon so willingness to travel is essential and your own transport would be a strong advantage. Occasional Saturday working will also be required.

You will be working in our public searchrooms where your main role will be to assist customers with their research, produce documents from our strongrooms, use a range of historical records to answer research enquiries and provide a friendly and efficient reception service greeting customers, issuing readers’ tickets and answering the phone. You may also be called upon to help with the listing of records as required and with talks, displays and other outreach events promoting our service.

We are looking for someone with a good general education including 5 GCSEs at grade C or above or equivalent, which must include English Language and Maths, good ICT and oral and written communication skills, excellent attention to detail and experience of working well with the public. This is a front-line public-facing role so a genuine interest and enthusiasm for providing excellent customer care is essential.

You will have some experience of working in archives or records management or, failing that, be able to demonstrate a genuine interest in local or family history.

Interviews will take place on Monday 10th February 2020.
