Cambridgeshire County Council’s (CCC) National Citizen Service (NCS) Team are looking to appoint relief youth support staff to facilitate the delivery of our 12 NCS programmes across Cambridgeshire during summer 2020. We are recruiting to the following roles in Cambridge, Huntingdon and the Fenland/East Cambs area.

NCS is a three or four week programme designed to develop young people aged 15-17 years, this includes building their confidence, independence and life skills. The programme involves a week away at an activity camp, followed by a residential at a prestigious university. Following this, young people will plan and deliver a community project within their local area. You will be required to be available throughout the whole programme, however you will have your weekends free.

Youth Support Workers – JNC Pay Point 2 (unqualified) Salary £16,757 pro rata or 3-6 Salary £17,267-£18,556 pro rata (dependent on experience and qualifications). This means you can expect to earn between £1705.11 and £1856.70 gross per 4 week programme. Hours worked are paid one month in arrears.

As a youth support worker you will need to be confident and have the ability to inspire and motivate a team of young people through their NCS experience, whilst also supporting the lead youth support worker with daily tasks as needed.

Below are the programme dates in each of the three areas:

Wave 1: Monday July 6th through to Friday July 31st (4 week programme)
Wave 2: Monday July 20th through to Friday August 14th (4 week programme)
Wave 3: Monday July 27th through to Friday August 14th (3 week programme)

A (JNC) qualification in youth and community work or other relevant youth work qualifications are desirable but not essential. Experience of working with young people, energy, enthusiasm and reliability are essential. Safeguarding and residential experience is desirable for this role, however full training will be given prior to the programme. Ability to drive a minibus is a preference but again not essential.

All staff are required to attend a non-paid residential training weekend from 7pm on Friday 24th April 2020 until midday on Sunday 26th April 2020 at Grafham Water Centre to enable you to deliver our NCS programme. The successful candidates will be required to undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Interviews will take place on 25th and 26th February 2020 at Babbage House, Cambridge.
