Personality Disorders Community Service

Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications

An exciting opportunity to join the Personality Disorders Community Service based at the Chesterton Medical Centre in Cambridge. The specialist outpatient service is NICE compliant and operates across all localities within Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Foundation Trust.

We want to hear from you if you are looking for an exciting and challenging career opportunity, you are self-motivated, able to take the initiative, seek solutions to problems and have strong prioritising and organisational skills. You will have access to training opportunities and have regular supervision.

The service has undergone a recent review involving service users and is embarking on an exciting new phase in its delivery of high quality services which strive for excellence for its service users. The service provides evidence based treatment protocols for patients with moderate to severe personality disorder which cover three main areas of impairment that the illness can present; namely psychological, occupational and social, with a specific focus on managing high chronic risk.

The treatment protocols are based on models of Mentalisation Based Therapy, Dialectical Based Therapy and the Model of Human Occupation. There is an ethos of compassion for the lived experience of personality disorder, and therapeutic optimism for long term recovery that runs throughout. The service also offers consultation and training for other teams and services as well as close partnership working with GPs and primary care, and is committed to staff training, service evaluation and research.

The Social Work post provides an opportunity to work alongside other highly skilled multi disciplinary team members to drive forward excellent practice and shape service delivery.

Cambridgeshire County Council has adopted a new approach to social work and social care to make it increasingly proactive, preventative and personalised. Transforming Lives is a three tier approach to working with individuals, carers and families that consider holistic creative solutions to enable individuals to meet their aspirations through the care and support planning process.

Embracing this new way of working will enable professionals to spend time with service users and carers, talking to them about their lives to determine what will make a difference to them. You will develop your knowledge of the local community, Council partners, information sources, service user’s personal networks and Care Agencies so that new opportunities can be accessed to maintain people’s independence as far as possible.

The essential criteria for the post will require that you have a recognised social work qualification, have a current HCPC registration and a proven track record that demonstrates your knowledge, skills and experience of social work in the field.

The successful candidate must have access to a vehicle for work purposes, and be willing to travel.
