Independent Remuneration Panel Member

We are looking for people, passionate about Huntingdonshire, to join an Independent Remuneration Panel (IRP) to help review our Members’ Allowances Scheme.

This is a voluntary position and as such unremunerated, although travel expenses will be paid. We are seeking people who can commit two / three full days to a review and also undertake a few hours background reading. Attendance at pre and post review meetings will also be required, these are normally an hour or two and can be held remotely if necessary.

We are required to have a Members’ Allowances Scheme whereby councillors (elected members) are entitled to fair allowances and expenses to cover the basic costs of carrying out their duties. This helps ensure people from all walks of life have the opportunity to act as local representatives. Allowances recognise that people are offering their time to act as elected representatives of local people so provide some financial recompense.
Experience of local government, financial expertise, commercial skills, community relations expertise would be advantageous.

You will be required to judge the relative value of different roles undertaken by elected members, ask questions, make recommendations and present findings.

For more information about the role and eligibility for appointment, please visit https://www.huntingdonshire.gov.uk/jobs/current-vacancies/independent-remuneration-panel-board-member/

Applications should be returned by 31 December 2020.
